A Guide to Choosing the Right Kuranda Dog Bed Size
Posted by Caroline Aro on 08/30/2023
When we shop for new beds for ourselves, it’s easy to tell that a twin-sized bed probably wouldn’t be suitable for someone who is 6’5” but when it comes to choosing your dog’s bed, it may not be as straightforward. We’re here to help!
There are no standard sizes when it comes to dog beds – small, medium, large are all so varied and relative. This makes buying a bed for your pup a bit more challenging than choosing a Twin, Queen or King bed for yourself. So what measurements are important to focus on? How much wiggle room should you account for on your dog’s bed?
Here are some of our suggestions for choosing the perfect sized Kuranda bed for your dog:

Kuranda Bed Sizing Guide
Based on average dog sizes, we've got bed size recommendations that may help you to visualize the size bed you're considering.
25” x 18” (X-Small) | Toy dogs ex. Chihuahua, Papillon, Pomeranian etc. |
30” x 20” (Small) | Pug, French Bulldog, Dachshund etc. |
35” x 23” (Medium) | Beagle, Whippet, English Bulldog etc. |
40” x 25” (Large) | Boxer, Labrador, Pitbull etc. |
44” x 27” (X-Large) | German Shepherd, Husky, Irish Setter etc. |
50” x 36” (XX-Large) | Doberman, Cane Corso, Great Dane etc. |
For a more accurate bed size recommendation or for your Heinz 57 mixed breed dog, we recommend you measure your pet from the tip of their nose to the base of their tail (as best you can!) and then add 4". Then refer to this chart to find the correct size bed:
Maximum Dog Length | Bed Size |
---|---|
21" | 25” x 18” (X-Small) |
26" | 30” x 20” (Small) |
31" | 35” x 23” (Medium) |
36" | 40” x 25” (Large) |
40" | 44” x 27” (X-Large) |
46" | 50” x 36” (XX-Large) |
But wait… there’s more! We also have an interactive “Build Your Kuranda Bed” tool on our website! This will help you determine the best bed type, size and fabric option for you and your pup’s needs.
When in doubt, order a size up – your dog will thank you! This is especially a good idea when getting a bed for a growing puppy. It’s also a great option if you have multiple dogs at home, so they can snooze comfortably together.
Crate Bed Sizing
Crate Bed sizing will be slightly different from ordering a bed that will be used as a standalone around the house. When ordering a bed to fit within a crate, be sure to measure the INTERIOR dimensions of your crate (without the crate pan) and find the Kuranda bed size that best matches. Our Crate Beds come with shorter 3.25” legs to allow for more headspace inside the crate. Choose from our Standard PVC, Aluminum or Slimline Crate Beds. Want to know the difference between frames?
