Fireworks Safety for Pets

Summer celebrations and fireworks traditions means great fun for family and friends! But as with any events or parties, it’s important to keep all of our family members in mind.

Fireworks and noisy celebrations can be very scary for animals, summer heat can lead to dangerous situations and BBQ table scraps can be unhealthy. There are a lot of things to remember in order to keep your pets safe during your summer parties but by planning ahead, you can be prepared and have a great time all-around!

Buddy, who?

This is important advice for all year, but especially during times when your pets are more likely to get out – be sure that your pet’s ID tags and microchip information is up to date. It’s also not a bad idea to have a current photo of your pet just in case they do get out.

What’s Up, Doc?

If your pet has a tendency to become anxious or fearful when exposed to busy situations or loud noises, talk to your vet. They should be able to suggest the best steps to keep your pet comfortable during the festivities.

Go to Your Happy Place

Provide a safe and secure place for your pet to escape from the hustle and bustle of your summer celebrations. Whether you’re bringing your pup to a BBQ and fireworks show or if the party is coming to you, it’s important to give them their own little sanctuary. White noise, music or a TV on in the background may help to calm your pet.

Stop, Drop and Roll!

We really want to avoid getting to the point of having to stop drop and roll so keep the following tips in mind! Keep your pets away from any fireworks, sparklers, glowsticks, charcoal or grills. Whether the grill is in use or still hot, keep the pups away!

Speaking of being too hot, remember that sun, heat and humidity can be dangerous for pets just the same as it is for people! Be aware of some general Summer Safety for Pets to keep your pets cool and safe.

Snack Time!

… Just not for your pets. It’s usually a good idea to just avoid giving table scraps to your pets since a lot of people food can be toxic to animals. While we’re all enjoying BBQ and burgers, it can be especially temping to sneak a bite to your pup but it’s better to be safe than sorry!
