What is the best size Kuranda Bed for my Dog?

Here are some of our suggestions for choosing the perfect sized Kuranda bed for your dog:

Measure Your Dog

To accurately determine the bed size for your dog, measure them from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail and add 4 inches. That number will correlate to the bed length that you need. Please select the bed size with a length that is greater than or equal to (DO NOT SIZE DOWN) your dog’s measurement plus 4 inches.

Ex. Your dog measures 23” so add 4” to equal 27” total; choose a 30 x 20 bed or larger.

Use our Bed Finding Tools

Browse our recommendations for bed sizes by your pup’s breed.

Based on average dog sizes, we’ve also got this handy chart with examples of what size will work best with what breeds. Sometimes this helps to visualize the size of the bed you’re considering but keep in mind – all dogs are different, so measuring your dog will get you the most accurate sizing. Remember, if you measure your dog, you’ll want to take their measurement (per the instructions in the section above) and refer to the bed LENGTH (bolded in the table below).

Bed Size Examples
25” x 18” (X-Small) Toy dogs ex. Chihuahua, Papillon, Pomeranian etc.
30” x 20” (Small) Pug, French Bulldog, Dachshund etc.
35” x 23” (Medium) Beagle, Whippet, English Bulldog etc.
40” x 25” (Large) Boxer, Labrador, Pitbull etc.
44” x 27” (X-Large) German Shepherd, Husky, Irish Setter etc.
50” x 36” (XX-Large) Doberman, Cane Corso, Great Dane etc.

We also have an interactive “Build Your Kuranda Bed” tool! This will help you determine the best bed type, size and fabric option for you and your pet’s needs.

When in doubt, order a size up – your dog will thank you! This is especially a good idea when getting a bed for a growing puppy, the goal is for you to need just one bed to last your pup a lifetime. It’s also a great option if you have multiple dogs at home, so they can snooze comfortably together.

Crate Bed Sizing

When ordering a bed to fit within a crate, please refer to your bed size and add 2” to those dimensions. Your crate will need to be AT LEAST these dimensions. This margin will allow the space needed to get your bed into your crate.

For example: You have a 40 x 25 Crate Bed – add 2” to each of those dimensions, which would be 42” x 27”. Your crate will need to be AT LEAST this big in order for your Kuranda bed to fit inside.

Our Crate Beds come with shorter 3.25” legs to allow for more headspace inside the crate. Choose from our Standard PVC, Aluminum or Slimline Crate Beds.
