What is better than one Kuranda dog bed? Two! The new bunk bed is the perfect solution for limited floor space for multiple dogs. The aluminum frame is superior in strength and prevents the bed from bowing in along the sides under the weight of very large dogs. They can enjoy the orthopedic comfort from the top dog view, or the security of the lower bunk. The Bunks, which are a little higher with each bed size are specially designed at optimum shoulder height for dogs to jump onto. The patented chewproof frame has a track the fabric slides into to safely protect it from chewing dogs. Comes with Cordura fabric, it looks and feels like canvas but wears like iron.

Great idea--hideous to assemble

By 6DogsMore from Charlotte, NC.
About Me:

Rated 2 out of 5.

Cons

  • Horrid Assembly

Comments:
I thought this bed was a great idea...but three weeks after it arrived, I am still trying to get it assembled. The instructions are for a single bed, the screws are cheap soft metal that strip easily, each piece needs to be pounded together with a rubber mallet for the nuts and bolts to fit. After reading similar reviews about assembly, I thought, oh no it can't be that difficult. And I assemble things all the time. However, this thing is a complete mess. I am tempted to return it except I have ripped open all the packaging in order to sort and organize the numerous pieces to make sense of the whole thing--without instructions that make sense. I purchased several Kuranda beds a few years ago. They came assembled and frankly were better quality than this one. Extremely frustrating and disappointing. Probably won't order this again and would not recommend it. You blew this one, Kuranda.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

As the owner of 3 dogs, I love this product!

We use the aluminum bunk bed for our 2 large dogs, a German Shepherd mix & a Labrador mix. Coco weighs approx, 70 lbs and Hank is 85. This bed holds their weight well and they use it all the time. It has been a great buy!

The bunk bed decreases the amount of hair that accumulates on the multiple beds that were on our floor. It is nice because our living room is on the small end and this bed helps free up more floor space, so we aren't jumping over big dog beds. The bunk bed is right in front of our living room window, which is nice for them. Our Lab used to jump all over the top of our leather couch to look outside, so this gives him a good view and satisfies his curiosity. Also, our leather has been saved.

The clean design is nice, I wish it came in a more fashionable colour, as the aluminum is a but industrial looking for my taste. But we need the strength of aluminum for our big guys, so it's alright. We just throw blankets down for them & a bed on the bottom. It's pretty cozy for them, and the orthopaedic support is a bonus for the big guys.

The only CON I would say would be the instructions for assembly. It's pretty straight forward except for specifying screws, etc. My husband had a problem with the locking nut- apparently the instructions aren't that clear. And he's pretty handy so it surprised me. (I had also read this is an issue myself in previous reviews). He actually had to cut them off and go get more bolts for it. The instructions could be clearer if they just added a blurb about that. So, he had to make a trip to the hardware store...

All all that being said, I would buy these beds again and again. They are sturdy & excellent quality. I'll probably buy another one for outside in the summertime. I emailed back and forth with the company and got very personal and prompt replies. The customer service is great! Kuranda beds are a wonderful product- I love them & so do my dogs!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I got the aluminum bunk beds for my 4 month old shepherd puppies two months ago. Those guys had shredded their previous bed, so I knew I needed something tough. These are great. They are strong and have nothing chewable on them. My dogs love them and took to them immediately. I had intended to use them as bunk beds, but the top bunk is pretty high and hard for the dogs to access. I ended up taking them down and using them as two separate beds, but all the necessary hardware to do this is included. I would definitely buy these again and highly recommend. Even if you dogs are not particularly destructive, these beds keep them off the ground and are very comfortable.

Very good quality bed.
Bought the Aluminum bunk and the dogs love it.
Best part no corners to chew.
Very confortable for the dogs and easy on their hips.
I made my own out of PVC for years but had to replace the fabric each year.
I think think this will be a much better investment by comparison.

Cons

Comments:
The bunk bed is two single bed kits shipped together. The only instructions were for assembling a single bed. Fortunately, it wasn't two difficult to figure out how to assemble the unit. Unfortunately, the bolts that came with it were not long enough. This required a trip to the hardware store. Stainless steel bolts cost $1.00 each, an added cost.
That said, my little dog loves this bed. I covered two sides with a blanket to mimic the crate that has been her bed for 13 years. She can look out the sun room window from one end, and look out into the living room from the other end. She is walking better, and her arthritis does not seem to be bothering her as much. Her kitty friend has learned that the upper bunk is specially made for a kitty. Would I buy this bed again? Absolutely!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Needs more clear cut directions on assembly of the corners. I stripped out to pan-head bolts and nuts tightening two of the corners and they wouldn't come together. Had to cut the bolts off. There is a ridge inside the corners, you want to make sure the poles are not setting on when you tighten. Fortunately, all I had to do was call Kuranda and they sent me out two bolts & nuts at no charge. Now waiting for email discount to order another bunk in the small size in addition to the toy and XL bunks here!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
