Cool dogs at Dancing Dogs Kennel

My small boarding kennel is outdoors and this past summer Texas recorded record heat over 100 degrees for more than 30 days straight. I only had a misting system to help the dogs stay cool. Then I had a gread idea that worked great – I froze water in plastic milk jugs, placed them under the kuranda beds and the dogs quickly discovered the cool spot and spent a cool afternoon snoozing on their beds. Owners were impressed and felt better about leaving their dogs with me. Now I have an air conditioned building for those extra hot days, but will still use the ice beds for those who don’t like crates.

“The dogs have to stay in their kennels,” Voytek said. “They sleep there and poop there and pee there and eat there — all in the same spot. With the beds, it’s a little more comfy for them. One dog has been in the shelter so long, she has little sores on her elbows from the concrete, like bedsores.”
